UW Health Northern Illinois Perinatal Conference (2026)
Overview
Current evidence indicates persistent gaps in perinatal practice across maternal, neonatal, and allied health disciplines, leading to variability in outcomes for mothers and infants. Providers may lack updated, evidence-based knowledge in sevePractice Gap and Needsral critical areas, including the history and implementation of therapeutic hypothermia for neonates with hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy (HIE), optimal perioperative pain management for cesarean delivery, and safe anesthesia practices in obstetric emergencies. Additionally, the growing prevalence of antepartum substance use and diabetes requires interdisciplinary collaboration and trauma-informed care strategies that many clinicians feel underprepared to deliver. Healthcare professionals must maintain awareness of evolving medico-legal standards and documentation practices to mitigate malpractice risks in complex perinatal cases. This conference addresses these gaps by providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary education that integrates maternal health, neonatal care, allied health disciplines, and legal considerations to improve clinical outcomes and promote collaborative, ethical, and patient-centered care.
