Join us for Metro Public Health Department's Continuing Education Learning Series. This session focuses on opioids and substance use and is being offered LIVE IN PERSON and ONLINE via webstreaming. 

    Statement of Need and Purpose

    The Metro Public Health Department's Continuing Education Learning Series will increase the knowledge and skills of public health practitioners addressing public health challenges within the community. The series aims to provide learning opportunities for Metro Public Health Department Nashville-Davidson County employees to gain insight on the foundational principles of public health practice. Participants can expect to learn about evidence-based strategies and tools that will support them in improving health outcomes in Nashville and Davidson County and beyond. 

    Intended Audience

    This educational series is designed to meet the needs of dentists and allied dental professionals, dieticians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, social workers, and other public health professionals.

    Session Learning Objectives

    Following this session, members of the interprofessional public healthcare team will be able to:

    1. Describe roles and responsibilities within the public health team that address opioid and substance use.
    2. Identify three public health interventions, and their impact on opioid and other controlled substance use.
    3. Explain how the patient's voice and lived experiences can ultimately lead to better healthcare.

    Global Learning Objectives

    Following this learning series, members of the interprofessional public healthcare team will be able to:

    1. Utilize continuing education as an opportunity to develop and sustain a competent public health workforce that values and incorporates team-based care into their practice.
    2. Identify and apply public health core functions within their practice.
    3. Employ evidence-based strategies to improve population health outcomes.
    4. Describe the roles and responsibilities of interprofessional public health team members within the health department.
    5. Identify strategies to address health disparities (e.g., access, socioeconomic status, environment, institutional practices, and bias that underlie racial, ethnic, gender, and/or sexual orientation disparities in health and healthcare)

    Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE)

    The University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP designates this live activity for 3.75 hours or .375 CEUs. Credit can be earned by successfully completing the activity, the assessment, and the evaluation. Credit will be provided to NABP CPE Monitor within 60 days after the activity completion.

    ASWB Approved Continuing Education (ACE) – Social Work Credit

    As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. State and provincial regulatory boards have the final authority to determine whether an individual course may be accepted for continuing education credit. University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP maintains responsibility for this course. Social workers completing this course receive 3.75  live continuing education credits.

    ADA CERP Continuing Education Recognition Program 

    The University of Wisconsin–Madison Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership (ICEP) is an ADA CERP Recognized Provider. ADA CERP is a service of the American Dental Association to assist dental professionals in identifying quality providers of continuing dental education. ADA CERP does not approve or endorse individual courses or instructors, nor does it imply acceptance of credit hours by boards of dentistry. Concerns or complaints about a CE provider may be directed to the provider or to the Commission for Continuing Education Provider Recognition at ADA.org/CERP. The University of Wisconsin–Madison Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership (ICEP) designates this activity for 3.75 continuing education credits.     Commission on Dietetic Registration Continuing Professional Education Units (CDR CPEUs)

    Completion of the RD/DTR profession specific or IPCE activity awards CPEUs (One IPCE credit = One CPEU).

    If the activity is dietetics‐related but not targeted to RDs or DTRs, CPEUs may be claimed which are commensurate with participation in contact hours (One 60‐minute hour = 1 CPEU).

    RDs and DTRs are to select activity type 102 in their Activity Log. Sphere and Competency selection is at the learner’s discretion.
