Join us for Metro Public Health Department's Continuing Education Learning Series. This session focuses on community engagement and outreach and is being offered LIVE IN PERSON and ONLINE via web streaming.
Statement of Need and Purpose
The Metro Public Health Department's Continuing Education Learning Series will increase the knowledge and skills of public health practitioners addressing public health challenges within the community. The series aims to provide learning opportunities for Metro Public Health Department Nashville-Davidson County employees to gain insight on the foundational principles of public health practice. Participants can expect to learn about evidence-based strategies and tools that will support them in improving health outcomes in Nashville and Davidson County and beyond.
Intended Audience
This educational series is designed to meet the needs of dentists and allied dental professionals, dieticians, nurses, pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, physicians, social workers, and other public health professionals.
Session Learning Objectives
Following this session, members of the interprofessional public healthcare team will be able to:
- Define the term community engagement.
- Describe partnership level community engagement
- Apply community engagement strategies to your program or organization.
Global Learning Objectives
Following this learning series, members of the interprofessional public healthcare team will be able to:
- Utilize continuing education as an opportunity to develop and sustain a competent public health workforce that values and incorporates team-based care into their practice.
- Identify and apply public health core functions within their practice.
- Employ evidence-based strategies to improve population health outcomes.
- Describe the roles and responsibilities of interprofessional public health team members within the health department.
- Identify strategies to address health disparities (e.g., access, socioeconomic status, environment, institutional practices, and bias that underlie racial, ethnic, gender, and/or sexual orientation disparities in health and healthcare)

This educational activity is designed to change learner competence and focuses on the following competency areas:
