2026 Neurology for the Non-Neurologist

Join providers from the Department of Neurology at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health for a fast-paced, daylong event in which experts representing all subspecialties of neurology will present pearls of wisdom to guide primary care and internal medicine physicians and APPs in tackling commonly encountered neurologic problems. Discussions will include how to determine signs and symptoms of neurological disease, localize “the lesion,” order the proper tests, initiate treatment and refer to a neurologist, when necessary.

Intended Audience

This activity is designed to meet the needs of primary care physicians, physician assistants, advanced practice nurses, and other health care professionals who are interested in expanding their knowledge and improving their care of patients.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participating in this activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to: 

  • Describe the signs and symptoms of neurological disease.
  • Explain how to localize "the lesion."
  • List the proper testing options 
  • Correctly interpret exam and test results to initiate treatment or refer to a neurologist. 
  • Explain their role in managing the care of patients with neurological disease.
