2018 Pediatric Critical Care Regional Meeting
Course Overview
The Pediatric Critical Care Regional Meeting will highlight the most up-to-date management of pediatric conditions to improve learners understanding of current research related to the diagnosis and management of pediatric critical care as practiced at major Midwest medical centers through networking and sharing of clinical research and practice improvement with experts in this field.
Elements of Competence
In addition to knowledge, this CE activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge, interpersonal and communication skills, and professionalsim; Institute of Medicine areas of working in interdisciplinary teams and the Interprofessional and Nursing areas of roles and responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and teams/teamwork.
Practice Gaps and Needs
Effective and efficient interprofessional collaborative practice in pediatric critical care medicine depends on uniform application of accepted standards for best practice. Limited opportunities for clinical teams to explore evidence-based research and discuss application to practice results in knowledge gap between best practice recommendations and current practice and inconsistent application to practice. This program will focus on the roles and responsibilities of care team members in managing critically ill pediatric patients.
Intended Audience
The conference is targeted to all allied health care professionals who care for critically ill children. Pediatric critical care physicians, pediatric emergency medicine physicians, pediatric surgical specialty physicians, pediatric medical subspecialty physicians, pediatric critical care nurses, advanced practice nurses, hospitalists, pharmacists, nutritionist and respiratory therapists will all find material of use at this conference.
Learning Objectives
At the conclusion of this educational activity, the healthcare team will be able to:
- Formulate plans to incorporate best approaches into their practice by identifying and discussing trends in critical care with interdisciplinary care teams.
- Increase interprofessional collaboration across Midwest regional intensive care units through reviewing latest innovations and best practice principles in pediatric critical care.
- Review latest quality improvement initiatives through interdisciplinary discussion on current QI projects and research.
