Series Overview

The Wisconsin DOC Quarterly Meetings is an ongoing series of meetings that occurs four times a year. In this meeting practitioners (MD/DO/APNP/PA) will be able to discuss Evidence Based Medical practices and how they relate to care in the Wisconsin Department of Corrections. Key features will include one to three medical lectures, update on pharmacy and therapeutics, update on EMR implementation and optimization to streamline and standardize care and an administrative update on where the bureau of health services stands in many areas today. Additional discussions on quality improvement, efficiencies, and patient centered care initiatives will be undertaken. Modes of learning will be verbal, video demonstrations, didactic lectures, and case presentations.

Global Objectives: 

As a result of attending this educational series, participants will:

  1. Apply new knowledge and skills related to complex acute and chronic medical conditions to improve the quality of care delivered to DOC offenders.
  2. Become more familiar with cost and quality benefits to DOC through adhering to guidelines based on EBM, standardization of approach to care, adherence to pharmacy formulary and optimization of EMR in facilitating care delivery.
  3. Improve teamwork and interprofessional and interdisciplinary communication related to providing care to prison population.

Metrics to assure objectives are being met could include pharmacy utilization data, policy adherence regarding utilization management, and individual EMR provider queries regarding adoption of technology to support best practice.
