Overview

This one-day educational forum will consist of lectures and panel discussions in Orthopedic Trauma Surgery. We are honored to have a national leader in Trauma Surgery, Andrew Pollak, MD, join us as our visiting professor. The topics covered will include: complex orthopedic trauma care, fractures around protheses (both upper and lower extremity), orthopedic trauma care in sports, the roots and origins of damage control orthopedics, and tips and tricks in surgical orthopedic limb care. We are excited for this opportunity to learn from this dynamic expert in the field of Orthopedic Trauma Surgery.

Practice Gaps and Needs

This event will address gaps in resident education in Orthopedic Trauma surgery. The topics addressed will include relevant clinical information to improve individual practices, patient care, and professional development.

Intended Audience

This activity is designed to meet the needs of physicians, physician assistants, nurses, advance practice nurses, athletic trainers, and students.

Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  1. Examine strategies for periprosthetic lower extremity fracture care.
  2. Discuss management of complex fractures involving Reverse Total Shoulder Arthroplasty.
  3. Summarize the origin and the ramification of now historic studies, Lower Extremity Assessment Project (LEAP) and Damage Control Orthopedics in orthopedic trauma.
  4. Explain strategies for complex orthopedic trauma care using the most efficient and effective surgical approaches, reduction, and implants.
  5. Examine how socioeconomic status, race, gender, and religious backgrounds limit access to Orthopedic trauma care.
