Overview

Session three will offer an overview and discussion on factors that encourage human flourishing, including identifying and applying character strengths, resiliency, hope, optimism, and empathy. This session will incorporate plenary and small group discussions to study the nature of these topics.

Practice Gaps and Needs

Providers lack the knowledge of the basic principles of positive psychology and opportunities to practice implementing positive psychology within their practice.                                    

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for nurses, psychologists, social workers, educators, and professional counselors. 

Learning Objectives

Global Learning Objectives

As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  1. Identify the elements of well-being theory.
  2. Discuss factors that contribute to well-being and their application amongst diverse populations.
  3. Describe the value of hope, optimism, and empathy in supporting a healthy and developmental growth-mindset.

April 11 Session Learning Objectives

  1. Define their character strengths and the importance of actively and intentionally applying one’s character strengths in day-to-day life. 
  2. Discuss the importance of resilience, factors that encourage resilience, and considerations for enhancing resilience in others. 
  3. Illustrate the importance of empathy and the factors contributing to an empathetic mindset.

Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC)

The Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) has pre-approved this continuing education activity for a maximum of 1.25 general credits. American Psychological Association (APA)

Continuing Education (CE) credits for psychologists are provided through the co‐sponsorship of the American Psychological Association (APA) Office of Continuing Education in Psychology (CEP). The APA CEP Office maintains responsibly for the content of the programs.

Association of Social Work Board (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE)  

As a Jointly Accredited Organization, the University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP is approved to offer social work continuing education by the Association of Social Work Boards (ASWB) Approved Continuing Education (ACE) program. Organizations, not individual courses, are approved under this program. Regulatory boards are the final authority on courses accepted for continuing education credit. Social workers completing this course receive 1.25 continuing education credits.
