Department of Pediatrics Medical Education Week 2024

March 18, 2024 to March 22, 2024

The Department of Pediatrics inaugural Medical Education Week will be held March 18-22. Through a mix of live streamed lectures, didactic and interactive sessions and a workshop, members of the Department of Pediatrics and the entire University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health community will have the opportunity to increase understanding and knowledge in the area of medical education. 

Intended Audience

This activity was designed by and for physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and trainees in the Department of Pediatrics. 

Learning Objectives

As a result of this educational activity, learners as members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  1. Describe innovations and best practices in medical education.
  2. Improve the implementation of medical education skills, innovations and application for trainee and faculty education and scholarship.
  3. Discuss self-determination theory and how it impacts leaner and faculty education.
  4. Evaluate health equity within medical education at a local and national level.

    • Discuss new developments in accredited continuing education that support clinician wellbeing and improve patient outcomes. 
    • Describe the UW Health GME structure, roles and responsibilities, and identify key initiatives
    • Summarize the iterative nature of curriculum improvement at SMPH, including the 2022 overall curriculum review.

    • Identify the different roles that Advanced Practice Providers (APP) play within the field of Pediatrics
    • Increase collaboration between APP and trainees to promote increased opportunities for trainee education
    • Utilize the unique roles of APP within Pediatrics to improve clinical care

  • Title: Changes to the ACGME General Pediatrics Program Requirements: Rationale, Themes, and Local Impact
  • Speaker: Dan Sklansky, MD
  • Learning Objectives:
    • Describe the ACGME’s rationale for shifts in the Pediatrics Program Requirements
    • Examine how the ACGME changes will affect educational experiences for residents at the University of Wisconsin
    • Outline the local logistical changes UW Pediatrics will undertake to be compliant with the details and spirit of the updated ACGME requirements

  • Title: Top 10 Tips for Disseminating Scholarship in Medical Education
  • Overview: In this session, we will review ten tips for getting your medical education scholarship out into the world!  We will explore key steps in preparation, traditional and novel dissemination options, and how to maximize output from each scholarly product.
