Series Overview

Our audience will learn how to provide inclusive care for LGBTQ+ patients. Sessions will cover cultural competency topics such as affirming language and reducing stigma around sensitive medical conditions, as well as medical competency topics such as completing intakes for and/or prescribing Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) to gender expansive patients, referrals between specialties and interprofessional collaboration to meet patients' needs, billing dos and don'ts, how to take an inclusive sexual history and treat patients according to their specific needs, prescribing and/or providing education on Pre-exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP) to patients who are higher risk for HIV, understanding the impact of co-morbidities and social determinants of health (SDOH) on patients' outcomes, and more. Sessions will be intended for an interprofessional audience.

Global Objectives

As a result of participation in this educational series, members of the healthcare team will:

• Focus on how the unique health needs and challenges faced by LGBTQIA2S+ individuals intersect with the provision of gender-affirming care, HRT, and other medical considerations.
• Apply current best practices and clinical guidelines for initiating, monitoring, and adjusting hormone replacement therapy (HRT) for transgender and nonbinary patients, while managing potential risks and side effects.
• Effectively use affirming language and apply strategies to reduce stigma in clinical interactions, fostering a supportive and non-judgmental environment for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals seeking care through enhanced cultural competency on health disparities for the LGBTQIAS2+ community in the healthcare system. 
• Facilitate effective referrals and demonstrate communication skills through engaging in collaborative care with multidisciplinary teams, ensuring LGBTQIA2S+ patients receive holistic care that addresses both medical and psychosocial aspects of their health.
