Conference Overview and Target Audience
The Wisconsin Update in Geriatric Medicine is an in-depth, knowledge-based review of the field of Geriatric Medicine. It is designed for all providers who care for older adults: physicians, physician assistants, nurses and nurse practitioners, pharmacists, psychologists, dietitians, and social workers who wish to provide better care for their patients. The course will cover both basic topics in Geriatrics and recent developments in the field through live, interactive presentations from area experts.

Cancellation and Refund Policy
Requests for cancellation must be submitted in writing to help@icep.wisc.edu. Cancellation requests received at least 96 hours prior to the conference will allow a full refund except for the nonrefundable processing fee of $50. No refunds will be made for cancellations received less than 96 hours prior to the activity start date.
Learning Objectives
As a result of participation in this conference, members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Discuss the diagnosis and management of common geriatric syndromes (e.g., urinary incontinence, metabolic bone disease, dementia, and falls).
- Describe organ-specific changes and diseases as they relate to the geriatric patient.
- Develop a clinical approach to geriatric patients based on knowledge of geriatric syndromes.
- Summarize the principles of preventative medicine, ethics, rehabilitation, and psychiatry as they relate specifically to the geriatric patient.
- Discuss appropriate pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments for older adults.
- Identify pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic changes that affect drug use in the geriatric patient.
- Discuss the social milieu in which the elderly patient lives.
- Recognize the complex service delivery network that has been devised to serve the elderly patient.
- Describe the operation of long-term care systems and specialized geriatric assessment programs designed to treat the elderly person.
Elements of Competence
This continuing education (CE) activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties areas of medical knowledge, patient care and procedural skills, interpersonal and communication skills, and systems-based practice, in addition to the interprofessional competencies of roles/responsibilities and interprofessional communication.
