Department of Psychiatry IDEAs (Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, & Antiracism) Seminar Series
This seminar series will provide individuals in behavioral healthcare clinical service settings and research settings with opportunities to learn about topics related to inclusion, diversity, equity, and antiracism. This seminar series is anchored in concepts of implicit bias and cultural humility and will provide learners with specific strategies they can use to decrease bias in research and clinical settings.
Intended Audience
This activity is designed by and for physicians, nurses, NPs, PAs, psychologists, social workers, and students in the Department of Psychiatry.
Learning Objectives
By participating in this educational series members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Describe what implicit bias is, how it functions as a habit, and can lead to prejudiced actions
- Identify how implicit bias influences grant reviews, selection of faculty candidates, interaction with colleagues, evaluation of trainees, tenure and promotion, award nominations and applications, and clinical decision making
- Identify and implement strategies for minimizing the impact of implicit bias
- Define cultural humility and how it is practiced in healthcare and academic medicine settings
