Department of Surgery Online Grand Rounds (18-20)
Series Overview
The Department of Surgery Grand Rounds is a weekly hour long lecture that features presentations relating to best practices in surgery, teamwork, and groundbreaking clinical research. Surgery Grand Rounds features a variety of surgical specialties, in order to best represent the many surgical specialties interprofessional care teams within the Department of Surgery and to broaden participants’ surgical knowledge. Our presentations vary from in-house research from faculty and chief residents to outside surgeons and specialists.
Intended Audience
This activity is designed for UW Department of Surgery faculty, residents and other healthcare providers as well as all surgeons and clinicians in Wisconsin and across the country interested in clinical effectiveness and efficacy as it relates to patient care and disease processes. As defined by the American College of Surgeons, surgeons are expected to study and evaluate new procedures and to become competent and proficient with advances that are appropriate. Technical skill alone is not sufficient to qualify a surgeon to perform new procedures. Procedural skills must be acquired within the context of in‐depth knowledge about the natural course of a disease.
Learning Objectives
After this activity, participants will be able to:
- Increase knowledge of new developments in surgical research and practice, within and outside of the domains pertaining to the participant’s surgical specialty.
- Improve ability to incorporate new knowledge into patient-centered surgery practice.
- Inclrease ability to effectively communicate across different specialties and professions when providing care to patients undergoing surgery.
