Series Overview

State of the Art/Journal Club or Controversial Topic--a 50-minute presentation. Journal Club is a critical review of the literature. Special or Controversial Topic in Outpatient Medicine. This presentation should take a special or controversial topic and present the evidence (literature) related to the controversy (e.g. ERT and breast cancer risk, whether to use PSA to screen men, etc.). State of the Art: 30-minute or 50-minute presentation is a review of important developments and “state of the art” in Primary Care, This may or may not be controversial. Presentations should be primarily related to clinical topics and include a scholarly review of the literature. Research Faculty--When faculty doing significant research are assigned to do State of the Art presentations, they are encouraged to present their current research to involve all division members in ongoing research. Clinicians and educators can “reality test” the information for the researchers, noting whether or not the research seems pertinent to clinical practice or medical education, and how it might be improved in this regard.
