Epic - Notecraft for Clinical Content Builders (CLN105) October 13-14, 2022 - VIRTUAL
Overview
Statement of Need and Purpose
Clinical Builders make key decisions during electronic health record (EHR) implementation and maintenance process, and they need to understand the implications of those decisions on clinicians and patient safety. To complete builds and lead the maintenance of an electronic health record, Clinical Builders need foundational knowledge and competence about topics such as the structure of data, clinical notes, and ordering tools. This course provides a solid foundation for Clinical Builders to acquire competence in basic builds and techniques to modify the EHR. Clinical Builders will be instructed how to determine what tools are best for different clinical needs and how they can customize the EHR to be more efficient for their organization.
Elements of Competence
This CE activity has been designed to change learner competence and focuses on the Institute of Medicine areas of utilizing informatics and the Interprofessional and Nursing areas of roles/responsibilities and interprofessional communication.
This educational activity is designed to change learner competence in the following areas:
- The American Board of Medical Specialties: Systems-based practice
- National Academy of Medicine/Nursing: Utilize informatics
- Interprofessional Education Collaborative Competencies: Roles/responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and teams and teamwork
- UW ICEP Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Value diversity in the clinical encounter.
Intended Audience
This course is intended for Nurse Clinical Builders and other clinicians who have interest in building in general and specialty practice areas who are using Epic's EHR in their daily workflow.
Learning Objectives
Following this course, the learner will be able to:
- Describe the variety of tools available to document in the EMR and how to evaluate which tool is best for which clinical need.
- Build and modify SmartPhrases, SmartLinks, SmartLists, and SmartTexts.
- Apply CER rules in combination with standard documentation tools to create a dynamic documentation experience for the user.
