Diversity Summit 2024: Advancing Disability Rights: Perspectives and Progress
Overview
This conference focuses on key issues in disability rights and inclusion. Learners will explore how to improve patient care by addressing the impacts of ableism in medicine, strategies for delivering better care to patients with disabilities, and how to create supportive environments for learners, faculty, and staff with disabilities or neurodiversity. Additionally, the conference will address practical ways to foster a culture of inclusion and belonging within organizations. The goal is to provide useful insights and actionable steps for improving accessibility and support across various settings.
Intended Audience
Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, Nurses, Physician Assistants, Social Scientists, Pharmacy Professionals, Social Workers, Psychologists, Athletic Trainers, Registered Dietitians, and other Healthcare Professionals.
Learning Objectives
As a result of this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to:
- Identify key ways in which ableism affects medical practice and patient outcomes.
- Develop strategies for delivering more inclusive and effective care to patients with disabilities.

Parking information
Attendees coming from outside the west part of campus for the summit are strongly encouraged to take public transportation or share a ride with other attendees. Parking in the UW Health Patient & Visitor lot 75 is very limited and we would like to make sure that patients and visitors have space to park. Lot 76 next to Nielsen Tennis Stadium has slightly more capacity for visitor parking, we encourage you to park there before considering lot 75.

Keynote Speaker
Anjali J. Forber-Pratt, PhD
Anjali J. Forber-Pratt, Ph.D. is the Director of Research at the American Association on Health & Disability (AAHD), a disability activist, and a two-time Paralympian. Prior to this role, she served as the Director of the National Institute on Disability, Independent Living and Rehabilitation Research (NIDILRR) in the Administration for Community Living. She holds three degrees from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. As a researcher, her primary area of work relates to disability identity development. She presents regularly at state, national, and international conferences and is author on numerous peer-reviewed journal articles and chapters. As a wheelchair-user for over 40 years, Dr. Forber-Pratt is nationally and internationally recognized as a disability leader and mentor. She was a White House Champion of Change in 2013 and the American Psychological Association awarded her the 2020 Citizen Psychologist Award for Advancing Disability as a Human Rights and Social Justice Issue Award.
Policy on Disclosure
It is the policy of the University of Wisconsin–Madison Interprofessional Continuing Education Partnership (ICEP) to identify, mitigate and disclose all relevant financial relationships with ineligible companies* held by the speakers/presenters, authors, planners, and other persons who may influence content of this accredited continuing education (CE).
