UHS Summer Academy: Discussing Sexuality & Kink in Clinical Practice - June 23, 2026
This presentation will provide an overview of research that demonstrates a rising proclivity of kink-positive attitudes and behaviors among college populations, related to increasing popularity and prevalence in visual media. Attendees will learn definitions of terminology related to sexuality and kink, elements and influences of human sexuality, and common motivations behind the practice of kink. The scope of practice for mental health professionals will be reviewed, and examples will be provided of how kink or other alternative sexual practices may arise in presenting concerns in a college counseling setting. The presentation will illustrate examples of how this knowledge can be applied to guide more informed clinical assessment, intervention, and resource recommendations.
