We begin our fourth season of the Emergency Education Night Webinar Series with a topic that drives much of the decision making in both the field and the emergency department. Shock does not wait. It reveals itself through small changes long before the collapse, and those early signs are often first recognized by the crews on scene. What happens in those first minutes shapes everything that follows when the patient arrives in the department.
Shock can turn fast. A patient compensates until they suddenly cannot. The numbers look acceptable until they do not. This session focuses on the early clues, the practical decisions, and the priorities that matter when time works against you. You will hear how the most recent AHA guidance influences airway management, perfusion support, and the quiet moments where a course correction still makes a difference. The aim is simple. Strengthen the care delivered at the door and carry that impact through the rest of the patient’s journey.
We are honored to welcome Dr. Michael Mancera, emergency physician, educator, and recognized leader in resuscitation science. His work spans both out of hospital care and the realities of the emergency department. He brings a grounded, real world understanding of how early actions influence the path that follows.

This activity prepares participants to recognize the first signs of shock, understand the shift from compensation to collapse, and apply interventions that support airway control and perfusion until the patient reaches definitive care. The goal is to reinforce clear, confident decision making during the first moments of contact.
