Implementation of EPAs: Practicalities & Pitfalls - Workshop

The Department of Pediatrics inaugural Medical Education Week will be held April 19-21, 2023. Through a mix of live streamed lectures, didactic and interactive sessions and a workshop, members of the Department of Pediatrics and the entire University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health community will have the opportunity to increase understanding and knowledge in the area of medical education. Specific activities for the week will include: supporting learner feedback, learner assessments, and trainee autonomy and self-determination theory.

Intended Audience

This activity was designed by and for physicians, nurses, advanced practice providers, and trainees in the Department of Pediatrics. 

Learning Objectives

As a result of this educational activity, learners as members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  1. Discuss the utility of EPAs vs. Milestones in various learning situations
  2. Illustrate strategies to foster an assessment culture in competency based medical education.
  3. Utilize EPAs to inform curriculum by adaptability and systematic assessment
  4. Explain the historical evolution of Competency Based Medical Education in Pediatrics and how that progression impacts clinical competency committee (CCC) reporting
