Title:  "Brave, Capable, and in Control: Helping Children Own Their Diabetes Journey"

As a result of participating in this educational activity, learners as members of the healthcare team will:

  • Define empowerment in the context of pediatric diabetes care as providing youth with knowledge, skills, and confidence to actively participate in diabetes self-management.
  • Describe the core components of diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES), including pathophysiology, healthy coping, problem-solving, and behavior change strategies
  • Identify variability in self-management skills 
  • Apply strategies for interacting with children with diabetes
