Learning objectives should be statements that define what participants are expected to gain during your educational activity. They should identify a change in competence, skills, abilities, and/or performance. To help to write these learning objectives, think in terms of “By the end of this presentation, members of the healthcare team will [be able to]… (define, demonstrate, discuss, explain, identify, increase, illustrate, apply, compare, etc.)”
E.g., live polls, small group discussions, case studies (https://ce.icep.wisc.edu/sites/default/files/Interactivity_ActiveLearningStrategies_20200223.pdf)

*
E.g., housing instability, health literacy, transportation, access to care, environmental or economic factors, social determinants of health
*
Describe 1-2 practical strategies learners will gain to address these factors in their practice.
*
*
E.g., CDC surveillance, internal EHR quality metrics, clinical trial outcomes
*
E.g., to highlight a clinical gap, benchmark current care, demonstrate therapy effectiveness

Lifelong Learning and Self-Assessment (MOC Part 2)

To meet the requirements for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) continuing education credit, please provide question, potential answers, the correct answer, an explanation for the correct answer, we are required to assess learners’ ability to apply course material to practice.

Please submit 2 to 3 multiple-choice assessment questions aligned with your session’s learning objectives. Providing 2-3 questions will ensure adequate rigor and allows flexibility should any item require revision during accreditation review.

Question Requirements

For each question, please provide:

  1. A short clinical scenario or practice-based question testing application of knowledge to practice (avoid simple recall)
  2. 4 to 5 answer options
  3. Clearly indicated single best answer
  4. A brief explanation explaining why the correct answer is right and why key distractors are incorrect
  5. A specific reference or citation (peer-reviewed journal, clinical guideline, or textbook) supporting the correct answer

Answers must be multiple choice. Please do not provide true/false, all of the above, or none of the above-type answers. Phrase questions positively (e.g., "Which of the following is the most appropriate initial step?") rather than negatively (e.g., "Which of the following is NOT...").

Example of Learning Objective, Question, Answers, and Explanation:

Learning Objective: “As a result of participation in this activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to…”
Implement an improvement plan for streamlining documentation in the health record as a means to improving efficiency while shortening note lengths.

Question: Coding guidelines were updated in 2021 and then 2023 to support clinicians in reducing documentation burdens. As a result of these changes, which of the following data elements are required to code for an office visit CPT code (i.e. 99202-99215)?

  1. Review of Systems
  2. Physical Exam
  3. Past Medical/Social/Family History
  4. Medical Decision Making

Answer: 4 - Medical Decision Making

Explanation: There are no longer requirements for documenting any specific sections of the note to reach billable levels other than supporting documentation to justify medical decision making. That is not to say that you should not document a review of systems, physical exam, or past histories. Rather these only should be documented if relevant and important to capture. You can save time by not spending excess effort on documenting things that are not needed.
