Advance Practice Provider Preceptor Workshop
Overview
Statement of Need and Purpose
Intended Audience
This workshop is designed to meet the needs of nurse practitioners and physician assistants who precept graduate students in their clinical practice.
Elements of Competence
This CE activity is designed to change learner competence and performance, focusing on the American Board of Medical Specialties’ areas of practice-based learning and improvement, interpersonal and communication skills, and professionalism, Institute of Medicine area of working in interdisciplinary teams, and the Interprofessional and Nursing areas of roles/responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and teams/teamwork.
Learning Objectives
Following this workshop, learners will be able to:
- Name two techniques for evaluating critical thinking in graduate clinical learners
- Demonstrate providing timely, specific feedback to a graduate clinical learner
- Describe a plan for addressing challenging student encounters
- Distinguish between nurse practitioner and physician assistant student competency prior to clinical rotations
Successful Completion
Learners will participate in interactive simulations, and cased-based and small group discussions that focus on real world experiences. A pre and post-activity scenario-based test is required. Learners will take the tests and evaluation as part of the workshop.

PROGRAM CHANGES
Emergency situations occasionally occur and may necessitate topic or speaker changes. The University of Wisconsin-Madison ICEP reserve the right to alter or substitute a topic or speaker without prior notification.
PARKING
Parking validation tickets are available for preceptors who park in the University Bay Drive parking ramp (Lot 76) on University Bay Drive and Marsh Drive.
- Make sure to take a ticket for the ramp and hold onto it. You will need it to exit.
- A parking validation ticket given to you at the workshop.
- Lot 76 is within short walking distance to Signe Scott Cooper Hall,
- Parking is subject to lot availability.
UW Hospital Ramp (Lot 75). Parking in Lot 75 will NOT be validated. You will pay out of pocket if you choose to park in this lot.
If you require handicap parking, there are accessible parking options across campus. To purchase a temporary UW Disabled (UW DIS) Permit on a daily rate please contact UW Madison Transportation Services prior to the day of the event. The parking lot on the side of Signe Scott Cooper Hall (Lot 85, highlighted below), Lot 60, across from Lot 76 is permit parking only and may NOT be utilized.

WORKSHOP ATTIRE
Business causal attire is appropriate for this workshop. Since meeting room temperatures and personal comfort levels vary, it is recommended that you bring a sweater or jacket to the educational event.
