3-Day Immersive Healthcare Simulation Course

Overview

This course aims to equip participants with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively design, facilitate, and debrief simulation education. This 3-day immersive simulation education course is designed to cover the foundational elements and best practices in simulation education.

Day 1: Participants will be introduced to the fundamentals of simulation education, including its theory, design, and the various types of simulation technology.

Day 2: The focus will shift to the development of simulation education, including drafting effective simulation scenarios. Participants will also receive hands-on practice with prebriefing techniques and an introduction to facilitating simulations.

Day 3: The emphasis is on debriefing through experiential practice exercises. Participants will have the opportunity to implement the simulation scenarios they created on Day 2, including conducting prebriefing and debriefing sessions.

Course Format

This course will be held in-person at the UW Health Clinical Simulation Program.

Intended Audience

This activity is intended for healthcare educators and administrators who are eager to:

  • Explore advanced simulation methodologies
  • Cultivate a culture of psychological safety in their learning environments
  • Enhance the effectiveness of their training programs

Global Course Objectives

As a result of this educational activity, members of the healthcare team will be able to:

  • Develop the fundamentals that are necessary for creating a curriculum for simulation
  • Create a simulation scenario based on their goals and objectives 
  • Practice debriefing skills in both normal and difficult circumstances and receive feedback on their debriefing
  • Facilitate the key components of a simulation including prebriefing, facilitation, and debriefing
