10th Annual Current Topics in General Surgery

The goal of this educational activity is to examine the latest development and current techniques in general and plastic surgery as they relate to a variety of featured topics. Using a disease-orientated approach along with panel discussions, debates, and case review, the activity will cover a broad spectrum of diseases.

Physicians and other healthcare providers in the state and region will learn novel techniques including advances in diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases to manage problems faced in daily practice.  Participation is encouraged through question and answer opportunities during the program.

 

Practice Gaps and Needs

Current Topics in General Surgery is the premier educational event in the region designed to educate general surgeons, this year including a plastic surgery track. This course will provide a comprehensive review and update of general surgery core competencies as outlined by the American Board of Surgery for re-certification, as well as instruction on innovations in technology and medical care focused on improved outcomes for patients.

Intended Audience

This activity is designed to educate community general surgeons, advanced practice nurses, PAs, RNs and other healthcare providers on topics relevant to new advances in the diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases.


Elements of Comptence

This CE activity has been designed to improve learner competence and focuses on the American Board of Medical Specialties' areas of patient care and procedural skills, medical knowledge, and interpersonal and communication skills and the nursing competencies of roles/responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and teams/teamwork.

This activity also focuses on the interprofessional competencies of roles/responsibilities, interprofessional communication, and teams/teamwork.

Learning Objectives

At the conclusion of the activity, the healthcare team will be able to:

  • Discuss communication and collaboration with partners in the care of patients
  • Review best current models of treatment and communication with breast and colorectal disease
  • Discuss effective practice management techniques
