Efforts to expand contraceptive access in the United States over the last decade have predominantly focused on long-acting reversible contraceptive methods. A broader view that focuses on patient-centered access to the broad range of methods can ensure that patients receive the best method for them and that reproductive autonomy is prioritized. This presentation will define a framework that policymakers, program implementers, and researchers can use to consider a broader range of factors that influence equitable access to high-quality, person-centered contraceptive care, including discussing building trust with patients as part of the contraceptive counseling process, and attention to structural and social determinants of health.

Health care professionals play a critical role in empowering people to choose the best method for them, free from coercion.
