Series Overview

The Geriatrics & Gerontology Education Series is intended to provide educational opportunities and updates on the latest findings both within the division and globally within the field of geriatrics and aging research. This is an interprofessional series targeting learners across multiple disciplines represented in care teams serving older adults. These disciplines include medicine, nursing, pharmacy, psychiatry, psychology, rehabilitation and social work. Attendees may also be PhD scientists or graduate students involved in the study of specific disease states and health care delivery systems that are relevant to older adults. These practitioners may be formally trained in geriatrics or be generalists serving older adults in common care venues ﴾e.g. hospital, nursing home, primary care﴿. The target audience includes those from UW facilities, Madison VA facilities and community facilities ﴾e.g. area retirement centers﴿.

Global Objectives: 

After completing this activity, the participant will be able to:

  1. Increase ability to use best practices and evidence-based interventions for common age-related conditions.
  2. Identify recent scientific advances made by both local and national or international researchers in understanding of pathophysiology, diagnosis, and management of geriatric syndromes, including dementia.
  3. Improve skills necessary for effective teaching and lecturing on geriatric topics.
  4. Foster interprofessional collegiality in educational and practice environments among healthcare professionals who provide care to older adults. Achievement of these objectives will be measured by recording disciplines and professions of attendees, and using post-presentation evaluations
