Series Overview

The UW Department of Emergency Medicine M&M Conference will review selected patient cases, including particularly rare, difficult, and/or interesting cases where either undesired or unsuccessful outcomes were achieved. The goal of this conference is to increase Faculty, Resident, APP, Nursing, Pharmacy, and Medical Student use of best practices and to review and address any barriers to optimal interprofessional healthcare team practice in emergency care.

Target Audience

Emergency Medicine faculty (MD & DO), residents (MD & DO), advanced practice providers (PA-C, NP), medical students and occasionally nursing (RN, APRN, LPN) and pharmacy affiliated professions.

The University of Wisconsin–Madison ICEP has been authorized by the American Academy of PAs (AAPA) to award AAPA Category 1 CME credit for activities planned in accordance with AAPA CME Criteria. This activity is designated for 1 AAPA Category 1 CME credits. Approval is valid until 6/30/2022. PAs should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation

As a result of participation in this educational series participants will: 

  1. Be able to apply the enhanced knowledge and skills to patient care in order to improve outcomes of emergency care patients.
  2. Increase participation in quality improvement initiatives related to discussed cases and evidence-based, patient-centered care provided by healthcare teams in the Emergency Department.
  3. Develop a systems-oriented approach to medical errors and undesired patient outcomes.
