Talk Objectives:

1) Identify the risk of disruptive patients/visitors in the healthcare setting, including situational “risk factors” that may indicate a greater likelihood that a disruptive event will occur
2) Identify early warning signs of a “disruptive” event and discuss how these may manifest in specific clinical/care contexts
3) Discuss practical steps and strategies providers can use to help deescalate a “disruptive event” safely
4) Identify resources available for proactive planning and preparation for situations that present an increased risk of potential for disruptive conduct
5) Discuss how Risk Management functions at SMPH/UWH and examples of situations where faculty and staff contact Risk
